Microsoft IIS monitoring and management plugin
Verax NMS Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) management plugin enables easy monitoring, alerting, health check, management and performance reporting for IIS servers. The plugin supports IIS versions 6.0 or higher. All the management and monitoring is performed with the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) protocol.
General information view
The view provides general configuration information for the Microsoft IIS including:
- Installed software: IIS version, OS name and version, service packs installed.
- Server configuration: host, domain and workgroup.
- Current status of IIS services: WWW, FTP, SMTP, POP3 IMAP and NNTP.
- Summary of sent/received data for all IIS services.

WWW view
The view presents information about IIS WWW service:
- Service information: name, description, start mode, state (running, stopped, disabled, etc.), status (OK, error, etc.).
- WWW servers list including: server name, identifier and access right information (read, write, execute).
- Application pools list including: application name, autostart status, request queue length, ping configuration (enabled/disabled, interval, response), startup and shutdown times.
FTP view
The view presents information about IIS FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service:
- Service information: name, description, start mode, state (running, stopped, disabled, etc.), status (OK, error, etc.), process identifier, connection timeout and maximum connections allowed.
- FTP servers list including: server name, localization, identifier, access right information (read, write, execute), connection timeout, maximum connections allowed and server listen timeout.
SMTP view
The view presents information about IIS SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) service:
- Service information: domain name, default domain, connection timeout, maximum connections and maximum recipients limits.
- Serviced SMTP domain list.
POP3 view
The view presents information about IIS POP3 mailing service:
- Service information: name, description, start mode, state (running, stopped, disabled, etc.), status (OK, error, etc.), process identifier, error control mode and read/write access.
- POP3 servers list including: server name, default domain, connection timeout and maximum number of connections allowed.
IMAP view
The view presents information about IIS IMAP mailing service:
- Service information: name, description, start mode, state (running, stopped, disabled, etc.), status (OK, error, etc.), process identifier, error control mode and read/write access.
- IMAP servers list including: server name, default domain, connection timeout and maximum number of connections allowed.
NNTP view
The view presents information about IIS NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) service:
- Service information: name, description, start mode, state (running, stopped, disabled, etc.), status (OK, error, etc.), process identifier, error control mode and read/write access.
- NNTP servers list including: server name, connection timeout and maximum number of connections allowed.
Usage statistics
The view presents usage statistics for WWW, FTP and SMTP services including such as bytes sent/received, requests served, etc. with per server breakdown.
Predefined IIS monitoring templates
The plugin provides predefined templates for most commonly monitored IIS counters (e.g. data transfers, request numbers, CPU and memory consumption and others). Most important, selected templates are provided in the table below (other, additional sensors and performance counters can be added by the user):
